Leadership · Field notes

Your standard is not what you say. It is what you repeatedly inspect.

Accountability begins with an agreement that two people can describe the same way.

Define finished

Replace “stay on top of leads” with a clear outcome: every active lead has an owner and a dated next action before the day ends. Specify what good looks like and where the team records it.

Assign one owner

Several people can contribute. One person must own the result. Ask that person to explain the commitment back, including the deadline and the support they need.

Inspect without ambushing

Agree on the review cadence before the work starts. Review the result and the obstacles. Separate an unclear process, a missing skill, and a missed commitment; each needs a different response.

Close the loop

End every review with a decision, an owner, and a date. Follow through yourself. Your team learns what matters from what you consistently return to.
